
Students completing their baccalaureate degree in Music will:
- Demonstrate technical proficiency and artistry on their primary instrument or voice.
- Effectively teach music in a variety of areas such as applied instruction, classroom
- education and ensemble direction.
- Understand music in depth through the study of music literature, history, theory and research.
- Enrich their community through music performance, education and/or scholarly activity.
All students majoring in music must complete the courses listed below, each with a grade of "C" or better.
They must also demonstrate proof of keyboard skills by passing a piano proficiency test administered by the Music Department.
All students wishing to pursue the Performance concentration and take 3000-level Applied Performance courses must complete an audition on their primary instrument. Incoming first-year students are encouraged to complete 2 semesters of 1000-level Applied Music on their primary instrument before completing this audition. Transfer students will audition upon entrance and be placed in the appropriate level of Applied Music/Performance.
